Constantine II (c. 316 – 340 AD) was a Roman Emperor and the eldest son of Constantine the Great. After his father’s death in 337 AD, the Roman Empire was divided among Constantine II and his two brothers, Constantius II and Constans. Constantine II ruled the western provinces, including Gaul, Britain, and Hispania. His reign, however, was marked by internal strife, especially with his brother Constans over territorial control. This tension led to Constantine II’s ill-fated invasion of Italy in 340 AD, where he was defeated and killed. Despite his short and turbulent reign, Constantine II’s efforts to maintain his father’s legacy reflect the political struggles that followed the division of the Roman Empire.
